The Vajrayana tradition of Drupchen or intensive group
practice with continuous day and night recitation of mantra done over several
days is regarded as one of the most effective and profound means for purifying
negative karma and amassing merit and wisdom. It is said in the tantras that
the merit of accomplishing such a retreat c continues into the future for
months, years, and even lifetimes, dispelling obstacles and purifying even the
heaviest karmic obscurations. Tibetan
Buddhists traditionally believe that attendance at such a retreat can yield the
same results as years of solitary retreat. In addition, these benefits are not
limited to the participants of the retreat, but spread a positive influence
over the entire physical locales as well as to the inhabitants of the region,
the country and the whole world, becoming the causes for harmony, prosperity,
joy and ultimately liberation for all beings.
