Ayang Rinpoche

Ayang Rinpoche is also the founder of two monasteries, in cluding Thupten Shedup Janchub Ling at Bylakupee, Chogyab, and Ayang Tulku, Ayang being the name of a 435-year-old monastery in Kham (eastern Tibet) which is a branch of the Drikung main monastery.Perhaps no Tibetan lama is more identified with the transmission of Phowa to the West than His Eminence Ayang Rinpoche.

On May 7, Rinpoche led nearly 700 of his students who streamed from around the world in a Nyingma Phowa practice, dedicated to all those who have died from the coronavirus and from natural death. At the end, Rinpoche had these words for us (my rough transcript):

"As much you can, do Phowa more, not only today, for all these dead beings all over the world. It will be great helpful.

"Most countries everywhere are locked down. Everyone is staying in the home. We have a lot of time to do Phowa for dead beings. Try best everyone, all Phowa practitioners. At this time it is very much needed, Phowa for all these beings.

"By this disease everywhere is locked down. This is not so bad; is good. We have best time for the Dharma practice. Otherwise, nothing to do in the home. This time, we must take good opportunity for Dharma practice. Phowa, do more for all the dead beings. We do Phowa for other dead beings, this is our Phowa practitioner duty. For this purpose we did Phowa course. For this purpose, not only for oneself death moment going to the Pure Land, not only this, as much as we can help all the dead beings to free from suffering oceans, attain to the Amitabha Pure Land. For those dead beings to reach a Pure Land, the Phowa practice is the best method.

"For this, everybody try best, not only today."

South India's Daily Wagers need our help

In South India, among those most affected by the pandemic are the daily wagers. They have lost their jobs and are facing immense difficulty in surviving without transportation, food and medicines during the current lockdown. Most daily wagers make only $8 per day when they are working.

Ayang Rinpoche is initiating a charity program to distribute food to these poorest families. In this way, the monastery and Drikung Charitable Society can make sure the daily wagers receive necessities directly into their hands.

If you, or any of Rinpoche's students and their friends and families, would like to join in this food distribution initiative, you are welcome to donate either through the world-wide Amitabha Foundations or directly to the monastery's account. They would appreciate receiving the funds by May 3.

Here is a link to make your US tax-deductible offering online through the Amitabha Foundation US. You may make a one-time or recurring gift of any amount, or at one of the suggested levels:
$24 for 3 day's wages
$56 for one week's wages
$240 for one month's wages

Rinpoche welcomes you to include names for dedication. Please see the field in the payment link to include your names.

May all beings benefit by our generosity!
